Fietspunt:

Genk is a great city to discover by bike. You can get to pretty much every location with just a bicycle.

At the trainstation in the heart of the city center, you can find Fietspunt ('Bicycle Point'). Here you can rent a bicycle or park your bicycle in a secured area . Need to get some small reparations done? Fietspunt can fix it in no time!

Are you a student at UHasselt UCLL or LUCA School of Arts? Thanks to the support of the city, you can buy a decent and affordable bike, starting from only 25 euro. On top of that, you get a free bikelock at the value of €30.

With 'Fietsnet' we have a very easy way to show you how to get from point A to point B by bike. You can read this map as a subway map. Seven visible routes take you to all corners of Genk. The colors on the map are also visible on the bike path with arrows in the same color.

Public transport

Bus

You can take the bus with 'De Lijn'. You can download their app for your smartphone, or go on their website to plan your route.

Buying tickets is fairly easy. You can pay on the bus, or you can order a ticket online. You can find the different price ranges here.

Yearpass:

Do you plan on using the bus regularly? Then you should consider purchasing a yearpass.

The 'Campuspas' is ideal for students. For only 20 euro you travel to the most important places for you: from your student room to the buss or trainstation and from your sports club to school.
The pass is valid from the 15th of september till the 14th of september the next year. You can use it on weekdays, in the weekend and during summer break.

With the Campuspas you can travel in city centre of Genk, but also in parts of Diepenbeek, Waterschei, Winterslag en Lutselus. Check the busstops on the website.

When you travel daily by bus or outside the zone of the campuspas, then you're better off buying a Buzzy Pazz or Omnipas. The City Counsil pays part of the cost for you:

  • 25% discount for a Buzzy Pazz (under the age of 25)
  • 25% discount for an Omnipas (25 till 64 years of age)

With these travel passes, you can freely use the bus and tram in the Flanders region. They are not valid in Brussels and Wallonia, these regions have different bus compagnies.

Train

With the train (SNCB) you'll have a rather quick and easy access to the different cities in Belgium. You can find everything on their website: https://www.belgiantrain.be/en.
